Golf Car Annie's first blog post. First off thank you for reading my blog. Associates Golf Cart and Utility Vehicle Service is a family owned and operated company. I am Golf Car Annie and I am the voice and face of my family owned company. So what is on my mind today. Our new building. When we started our golf cart company in 1993 we never knew it would grow to where it is today. However we quickly realized that our small office building which was the home of Associates Delivery Service since 1952 would not be big enough for all of our equipment and golf carts and utility vehicles. I say Associates Delivery Service you may ask, huh? That will be another blog, but that company was my dad's company and the reason we were able to start Associates Golf Cart.  So as I was saying.  We quickly outgrew our current location and were renting space from various other people to store golf carts and store equipment. We soon realized we needed a bigger location. In 2002 we found the perfect spot, located on Route 9G in Hyde Park, NY.   It was 12 acres and was zoned mixed use business. Our intentions were always to build a new building and move our business operations out of one space. After we paid off the loan for the land we wanted to start right away.  However it is so expensive, much more expensive then what we thought so we started and stopped the process about three times wasting a lot of time, money and energy.  As the years went by and our golf cart company turned into not just golf carts but muliti passenger shuttle carts and utility vehicles and our rental fleet grew to about 500 golf carts and utility vehicles we had no choice but to finally commit 100% on this new building. I will be honest it was the scariest decision and still is scary.  We started the process in 2017 and it is now 2020 and we are still not into the new building. However we are very close.  A lot of blood sweat and tears have been shed. As well as a lot of money. Just to begin before a piece of dirt is  moved we had over $100,000 in fees and this and that that all of the agencies require and engineering fees. As a family, these three years have been the most trying experience of our lifetime. It is an accomplishment that we have survived without killing one another haha.  No serious, try working with your dad and your sibling and nephews every day, that is trying enough.  But add a new building construction to this mix and see what happens. If anything I guess it made us stronger as a family. We all have a sense of pride and accomplishment. Me, I am just scared that financially  I hope this big move pays off and that we succeed.  I am sure we will but you would be crazy to just sit back and hope it all works out.  This type of investment to our family business requires a lot of time and hard work coming up. I foresee my golf game not being what is has been of late, but there is always tomorrow or next year for that. For  now, working hard to get this new building up and running and growing our business is first on my plate. Something of this magnitude sure gives one some new passion and a fire under your tushy to be motivated.  Working for the same business for any length of time can get boring or stale.  I have been working for my dad since I was 18 years old. Thirty years later I am still here. Still loving what I do, which is making the lives of my customer's easier and happier.  Well, thanks for reading my first blog.  I will continue to write each week and let you learn a little more about this little family company of ours. For most who have ever spent time with us they all say, You should be a reality show like Orange County Choppers.  Maybe one day! It could help pay for this new building!   I promise you we would not disappoint! We already have Hot Rod Ron, Grumpy John, Kamikaze Joe. Have an awesome day everyone, keep smiling, life is too short to not be happy.
